SABATON’s PÄR SUNDSTRÖM: It Is ‘Not Necessary’ To Be Fresh ‘To Be Successful In Heavy Metal’

Blabbermouth · 4 hours ago

Sabaton bassist and manager Pär Sundström said the Swedish band’s commercial success stems from sustained hard work, independence and a collaborative team rather than any single factor. He argued that resisting outside direction and pursuing the band’s own approach has allowed it to develop into one of Europe’s most successful recent heavy metal acts.

Sundström highlighted his long-standing partnership with singer Joakim Brodén, the stable line-up in place since 2012, and the contribution of the band’s office staff. He said Sabaton organised a European tour involving more than 200 crew members without external management guidance, and described its festival, cruise, magazine and mail-order operation as examples of its independent thinking. Asked about remaining fresh after more than 25 years, he said novelty was not essential for success in heavy metal.

  • Sundström credits Sabaton’s success to independence, teamwork and hard work.
  • The band has managed major touring operations without outside management.
  • He says freshness is not essential in heavy metal.
