Scots DJ Edith Bowman’s ‘pinch me’ moment as Wills and Kate tell of Anstruther ‘chippy’ memories

Daily Mail ·

The Prince and Princess of Wales told presenter Edith Bowman that they still remember Anstruther Fish Bar fondly, more than 20 years after visiting the Fife takeaway while studying in St Andrews. Bowman described speaking with the couple at a London film premiere as a “pinch me” moment, and their remarks have brought fresh attention to the shop.

During a 2021 visit to Anstruther, William and Kate ordered haddock and chips, ate by the harbour and returned for ice cream before flying back to Edinburgh. The shop’s current owner, Walker Murray, said the royal couple’s kind words gave staff a boost and helped the business; other celebrity customers have included Robert De Niro, Robert Duvall and Tom Hanks.
