Season two of Netflix’s Cyberpunk 2077 anime streams October 20
Netflix has confirmed that "Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2", the second season of its anime adaptation of Cyberpunk 2077, will begin streaming on 20 October, alongside the release of its first teaser trailer. The series remains a co-production between game developer CD Projekt Red and Studio Trigger, but this instalment moves away from the original characters to follow an entirely new group of mercenaries navigating Night City, with Netflix describing it as a standalone "chronicle of redemption and revenge."
The 10-episode season will be directed by Kai Ikarashi, an animation director on the first series, alongside other returning figures including producer and showrunner Bartosz Sztybor, writer Masahiko Otsuka and lead character designer Ichigo Kanno. The teaser reveals little of the plot but introduces new edgerunners and netrunners and showcases what Netflix calls a "reimagined," grittier animation style. The original Edgerunners was widely praised and is credited with significantly boosting sales and player numbers for Cyberpunk 2077 on Steam, a game CD Projekt Red is now developing a sequel to.
