Semafor Taps Ashley Gold For Key Role Covering Technology

Deadline · 1 hour ago

Semafor has hired Ashley Gold as its new senior technology correspondent, giving her a key role covering technology, artificial intelligence and global politics for the news outlet. The appointment strengthens Semafor's Washington-based technology team, which has grown significantly since the outlet's launch and is already known for breaking stories on major AI investments and government-tech relations.

Gold joins from Axios, where she was senior tech policy reporter and co-authored the AI+ Government newsletter, and previously worked at The Information, Politico and the BBC. She starts on 8 September and will report to Semafor's senior Washington editor, Elana Schor, working alongside tech editor Reed Albergotti. Semafor, launched in 2022, has doubled the size of its Washington newsroom since then, and editor-in-chief Ben Smith said the hire reflects technology's importance as a policy area across Washington, Brussels and Beijing.
