Serial killer’s ex-wife slept beside murderer for 8 years, never suspected his deadly double life
Bonnie Lou Gower says she spent eight and a half years married to Richard “Marc” Evonitz without knowing he was a serial killer who preyed on young girls. She is revisiting the relationship’s warning signs with Kara Robinson Chamberlain, who survived an 18-hour captivity by Evonitz, in a true-crime documentary series examining whether he was linked to other unsolved cases.
Gower met Evonitz as a teenager and married him in 1988, when she was 17 and he was 25. She recalls that he stayed behind when she visited family, saying he had to work, and later learned he had taken time off; she also describes him isolating her from relatives and friends, denying suspected affairs, and becoming prone to rages. Chamberlain says Evonitz kept his violent side closely controlled around those closest to him.
