Serve Robotics launches new business to become the AWS for robots
Serve Robotics is launching Physical AI Services, a business that will sell connectivity and data tools to companies developing robots. The move extends the company beyond operating its own delivery and hospital robots, allowing it to supply technology for robots used in settings such as farms and warehouses.
The new line has three products: Serve Link connects robots to AI systems in data centres; a data curator helps identify unusual cases in real-world robot data for model training; and a catalogue of data from Serve’s sidewalk robots is intended to help train AI models on human environments. Construction robotics startup Bedrock Robotics is a customer, and Serve is working with T-Mobile on bringing computing power closer to robots. Serve’s delivery business is also growing while shifting from Uber towards partners including DoorDash and Wonder.
In short
- Serve is selling robotics tools to other companies.
- Its new business has three connectivity and data products.
- Bedrock Robotics is among its customers.
Steelman: both sides, in good faith
The strongest fair case each way — we don't pick a winner.
The case for
Serve’s move could make useful robotics infrastructure available to developers who lack the resources to build reliable connectivity and data tools themselves. By drawing on experience running robots in public settings, the company may help improve training data and bring AI computing closer to machines, while opening a new source of revenue beyond its own delivery fleet.
The case against
Selling infrastructure built around Serve’s own operations may give customers access to tools and data that are less mature or broadly applicable than the AWS comparison suggests. Sharing real-world robot data also raises questions about coverage, privacy and representativeness, and Serve’s expansion into a new business could stretch its focus as its delivery partnerships change.
