Set Up a Separate Work Profile on Your Android Phone

Wired · 3 hours ago

Android phones can use separate user profiles linked to different Google accounts, allowing work and personal activity to be kept apart on one device. The active profile determines accessible apps, notifications, browsing history and files, which can help reduce the overlap between professional and private life.

To create a work profile, users need a second Google account, then can go to Settings > System > Users, add a user and sign in to that account. The second profile starts with its own default home screen and requires apps and settings to be configured separately; profiles can be switched through the Users settings or Quick Settings. The feature is available on many Android phones, including Pixels, but not Samsung Galaxy devices, which instead offer Secure Folder.

  • Separate Android profiles can divide work and personal phone use.
  • Each profile has distinct apps, notifications, files and settings.
  • Availability varies by manufacturer; Galaxy phones lack this feature.
