Seven killed in Israeli strike on southern Lebanon, country’s PM says

BBC World · 2 hours ago

An Israeli air strike on a house near Ansar in southern Lebanon killed seven people, including three children and two women, Lebanese authorities said. The attack is among the deadliest since a June framework intended to reduce hostilities, highlighting the fragility of the agreement and renewed pressure on US-led negotiations.

Israel said it targeted Hezbollah infrastructure after an earlier incident involving its soldiers near the Ali al-Taher Ridge. Further strikes in Deir al Zahrani reportedly killed two people and injured nine, while Israel continues to occupy about 5% of Lebanese territory under a 10km-deep security zone; talks between Lebanese and Israeli negotiators are expected to resume in September.
