Shakira, Global Citizen, Live Nation and CAF Commit $1.25 Million to Rebuild Schools in Colombia Following Earthquake

Variety · 1 hour ago

Shakira, the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, Live Nation and CAF have pledged an initial $1.25 million to help rebuild schools in Colombia after a devastating earthquake struck the country last week. The singer visited Quibdó, in the hard-hit Chocó department, alongside philanthropist Howard Buffett and representatives from CAF and Fundación Pies Descalzos, meeting local officials as she announced the commitment; a similar effort followed earthquakes in Venezuela last year.

The funding comprises $500,000 from the FIFA Global Citizen Education Fund, a matching $500,000 from Live Nation, and $250,000 from CAF, with Fundación Pies Descalzos leading reconstruction alongside local authorities. In Chocó alone, 40 schools collapsed entirely, with 3,207 affected nationwide, and Shakira has also pledged to personally support rebuilding the region's main public university. She urged governments including the UK, Ireland, Canada and Japan to join the recovery effort, describing schools as vital to giving children stability after disaster.
