Shedding and raising pounds – Jones tackles longest run
Former Wales and British & Irish Lions prop Adam Jones is preparing to run the Cardiff half-marathon on 4 October, a major physical challenge for a player renowned for scrummaging rather than distance running. The 45-year-old Harlequins scrum coach began the effort after becoming concerned about his weight and health, describing the challenge as a way to leave his comfort zone.
Jones has lost more than five stone, falling from 24st 7lb (156kg) in 2025 to 19st 7lb (124kg). He changed his diet, stopped crash dieting and gradually built up his fitness through a couch-to-5k programme, recently completing a 17km training run. He is raising money for St David’s Hospice Care and Prostate Cymru, with support from colleagues and former Wales staff.
