Sheryl Crow releases Freedom Bus ahead of Pick You Up

Sheryl Crow has released “Freedom Bus” as a preview of her forthcoming album, Pick You Up, deciding the politically minded track should be included after originally considering a shorter EP. The song responds to political polarisation in the United States, with Crow urging people to value freedom and engage in respectful disagreement rather than using free speech to attack others.
Crow wrote the song with guitarist Jeff Trott during regular songwriting sessions at her Nashville home, and it includes guest vocals from Jesse Welles. Inspired by a visit to Arlington National Cemetery while accompanying her son’s school trip, and informed by her USO performances, the track reflects on the sacrifices associated with US freedoms; Pick You Up is due on 9 October.
