Explained simply
Shrek is an animated comedy made by DreamWorks and first released in 2001. It follows Shrek, an ogre who lives alone in a swamp, as he sets out with a talking donkey and meets characters from familiar fairy tales.
The film plays with fairy-tale conventions and became known for mixing jokes aimed at children and adults. Its central relationships, including Shrek’s friendship with Donkey and romance with Princess Fiona, helped make it a long-running part of popular culture.
