Six dead after gunman opens fire in Kraków market square, with three more victims found at suspect’s home
Six people were killed and 16 injured when a gunman opened fire in Kraków’s busy main square, prompting Poland’s defence minister to call the attack an act of terror. Authorities said the 25-year-old Polish suspect held radical, ultra-nationalist views and appeared to have acted alone.
Police said the dead included four women and two men, among them a British citizen; three other people, believed to be members of the suspect’s family, were later found dead at his home. Five foreign nationals were among those wounded, and two police officers were injured, one seriously. The city receives about 15 million visitors a year, and official mourning was declared through Wednesday, with national mourning on Sunday and Monday.
