Snapchat now lets you share what you’re listening to in real time

TechCrunch · 2 hours ago

Snapchat has introduced a new feature that allows users to share what they are listening to in real time, marking the app's latest push into music-driven social discovery. Called "Now Playing," the tool links to a user's streaming account and displays current listening activity on Snap Map, letting friends see and discover songs, while also tying into Spotlight, Snapchat's short-form video feature.

The feature initially supports Spotify, with users able to control who sees their activity and pause sharing for three hours, 24 hours or indefinitely; sharing automatically pauses if the app has not been opened for more than a day. It adds to Snap Map, which has over 450 million monthly users, and reflects a wider trend of social apps embracing music sharing, following similar moves by TikTok, Instagram and Spotify itself. The feature is rolling out where both Snapchat and Spotify are available, with Canada to follow.
