Sony has unveiled two new wireless headsets, the PlayStation Pulse and Pulse Edge, both featuring planar magnetic drivers – a technology the company gained through its acquisition of premium audio brand Audeze. This marks Sony's continued push into higher-end console audio, following the 2024 launch of the Pulse Elite, its first headset to use this driver type, which produces cleaner bass and lower distortion than conventional designs.

Both new models support PlayStation Link for ultra-low latency audio and seamless switching between compatible devices such as the PS5, PlayStation Portal, PC and Mac, as well as standard Bluetooth connectivity. Sony says the headsets improve directional audio cues, useful for pinpointing sounds like footsteps in shooters, and both include AI-enhanced noise-rejecting microphones. The pricier Pulse Edge goes further with double the magnets for deeper bass, active noise cancellation and a detachable boom mic. Neither headset has a confirmed price or release date yet, though comparable Sony and Audeze products currently retail between $149 and $329.
