Soundcore’s Nebula X1S projector is an incredibly bright version of its popular Nebula X1

Engadget ·

Soundcore has launched the Nebula X1S, a brighter successor to its Nebula X1 projector, aimed at overcoming the usual difficulty of using projectors in daylight. Its 6,000-lumen output could make it suitable for daytime sports and other viewing with curtains open, placing it among the brightest consumer models available.

The 4K triple-laser projector supports Dolby Vision, can project up to 300 inches and uses a four-lamp engine, compared with the X1’s three lamps and 3,500 ANSI lumens. It offers up to a 56,000:1 dynamic contrast ratio, Google TV, two HDMI ports including eARC, and 26dB liquid-cooled operation, but still lacks Dolby Atmos audio. Prices start at $3,299, or $3,999 with satellite speakers; introductory discounts until 20 September reduce these to $2,499 and $2,799 respectively.

  • Soundcore’s new projector reaches 6,000 lumens for daylight viewing.
  • It retains 4K, Dolby Vision and strong contrast.
  • Launch discounts run until 20 September.

Home projectors create a picture by shining light onto a wall or screen, so bright rooms can make the image harder to see. A higher light output can help with viewing in daylight, though results also depend on the room and screen.

Soundcore is the electronics brand behind the Nebula line of projectors. The Nebula X1 is a 4K model that uses three laser lamps; the X1S is its successor, with a brighter four-lamp system and features for streaming video and connecting other devices.

The X1S is aimed at people who want a large-screen picture without always darkening the room. Its brightness may broaden when and where a projector can be used, while its price places it in the higher-cost end of consumer home cinema equipment.
