SpaceX revenue jumps 161% as AI and connectivity expand

The Verge ·

SpaceX reported Q3 revenue of $14.6 billion, up 161 per cent year-on-year, attributing the jump to rapid growth in its artificial intelligence and connectivity businesses. The results show how much AI now contributes to the company, while its traditional space operations remained a smaller part of revenue and recorded a slight operating loss.

The AI segment generated $7.6 billion in revenue, up 830 per cent, which SpaceX linked to new cloud services agreements, its acquisition of Cursor and wider Grok adoption. Connectivity, including Starlink, brought in $5.2 billion and had 13.6 million consumer subscribers; it reported $2.4 billion in operating income. Space revenue was $1.8 billion, up 6 per cent, while the division posted a $7 million operating loss. This was SpaceX’s second earnings report since its June IPO.

SpaceX is a US company best known for building rockets and launching satellites. It also runs Starlink, a satellite internet service, and has expanded into artificial intelligence through cloud services and links to Grok, the chatbot made by Elon Musk’s xAI.

Its business now spans three main areas: AI, connectivity and space operations. Starlink sells internet access to households and other customers, while the space division launches rockets and carries out related work; these businesses have different costs and sources of income.

The balance between them matters because it shows how SpaceX’s growth and finances depend on more than rocket launches. Its results also offer investors a way to assess the company as a newly listed business.
