Sony/Marvel's "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is set to cross $900 million at the US domestic box office on Friday, becoming only the second film ever to reach that mark after Disney's 2015 release "Star Wars: The Force Awakens" – and doing so faster than any film before it. The milestone caps a remarkable summer run and puts the Tom Holland-led film, directed by Destin Daniel Cretton, within reach of overtaking "The Force Awakens" ($936.6 million) as the highest-grossing domestic release of all time.

The film reached $900 million in just 36 days, compared with 50 days for "The Force Awakens", and is forecast to add around $18 million over the four-day Labor Day weekend after taking $30.4 million in its fifth week. Elsewhere at the box office, Paramount's period thriller "By Any Means", starring Mark Wahlberg and Yahya Abdul-Mateen II, opened previews with $725,000 and is projected to earn $6–8 million over four days, while A24's sci-fi thriller "Onslaught", featuring Adria Arjona and Rebecca Hall, took $275,000 in previews ahead of an expected $5–7 million opening weekend.
