‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Director’s Next Movie Officially Picked up by Sony

Sony Pictures will co-finance and distribute Lionsgate’s live-action Naruto film internationally, helping the project secure a green light after a competitive bidding process. The deal matters because it moves the long-planned adaptation towards production, with Destin Daniel Cretton set to write, direct and produce.

Production is scheduled to begin in spring 2027. Lionsgate will manage development, production and domestic distribution, while the film is based on Masashi Kishimoto’s series about an orphan who dreams of becoming Hokage; a global search for the central Team 7 cast has begun, but no casting has been confirmed.
