Sony/Marvel's Spider-Man: Brand New Day continued its exceptional US box office run over the Labor Day weekend, putting it on the brink of overtaking Star Wars: The Force Awakens as the highest-grossing film ever at the domestic box office. The film's staying power, driven partly by repeat viewings, underlines its status as a rare box-office phenomenon a decade after Force Awakens set the previous benchmark.

With a four-day haul estimated at around $21 million, the film's domestic running total reached roughly $921 million by the end of Labor Day, leaving it under $16 million short of Force Awakens' $936.6 million record. It became the fastest film to cross $900 million domestically, doing so in 36 days, and only the second ever to reach that mark. Elsewhere at the box office, Universal's The Odyssey held second place with a four-day figure of $15.2 million and a $586.98 million cume, while newer releases including Coyote vs. Acme, the Cars re-release, By Any Means, Insidious: Out of the Further, Onslaught and Fall 2: Deadpoint filled out the rest of the top rankings.
