‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ To Pass $700M U.S. Wednesday, Will Catch Dinosaur Pic ‘The End Of Oak Street’ In Its Web – Box Office Preview
Sony/Marvel's "Spider-Man: Brand New Day" is set to cross $700 million at the US box office on Wednesday, becoming only the seventh film ever to reach that milestone domestically and the fourth Marvel Cinematic Universe title to do so. The film continues to dominate cinemas in its third weekend, which matters for both Sony and Disney as it cements the movie among an elite group of blockbusters and puts pressure on new releases entering an increasingly crowded late-summer market.
As of Tuesday, the Destin Daniel Cretton-directed film had an estimated running total of $671.2 million, having made close to $17 million on Monday alone. Its third weekend is projected to bring in between $57 million and $72 million, a drop of 50-60% but still enough to top the charts. It faces fresh competition from Warner Bros' dinosaur film "The End of Oak Street", starring Anne Hathaway and Ewan McGregor, expected to open between $20 million and $25 million, as well as Paramount's "PAW Patrol: The Dino Movie" and Angel Studios' "The Brink of War" starring Jeff Daniels as Ronald Reagan.
