Spider-Man: The Animated Series’ unresolved 1998 cliffhanger will finally be addressed in a new comic special. Original writer John Semper is returning for Spider-Man ’94 Annual #1, which will explain how Peter Parker and Mary Jane Watson reunite after the show ended before its planned sixth season.

The annual will be released on 9 December, with art by Alessio Cammardella, and is set between the animated series finale and Marvel’s 2024 Spider-Man ’94 comic. Semper said the story is intended to give fans closure, rather than adapt every idea considered for season six, such as Ghost Rider or Jack the Ripper being revealed as Carnage. The resolution will arrive in comic form rather than through a revival of the original series.
