Spotify has begun rolling out a beta feature that lets Premium subscribers hold a back-and-forth conversation with the app, either by typing or speaking, to choose music and ask questions about what they're listening to. Available on iOS and Android in the app's Home and Now Playing views, the tool allows users to request tracks, refine choices with follow-up commands, and ask about the background of songs, albums or artists, all without leaving the app. It marks the latest step in Spotify's push to make the platform feel more personal, and comes as rivals such as YouTube Music develop similar conversational listening tools.

The feature began rolling out on 14 July to Premium users aged 18 and over in the US, Ireland and Sweden, in English, and is described by Spotify as a work in progress that will improve with user feedback. It builds on Spotify's earlier AI ventures, including its 2023 AI DJ and the December 2025 Prompted Playlist tool, and reverses an October 2025 move that brought Spotify content into ChatGPT by instead keeping interactions within Spotify's own app. The company says the feature uses a combination of its own AI and third-party models, and the launch comes as Spotify reported 761 million monthly active users and 293 million Premium subscribers for the first quarter of 2026.
