Spotify’s new podcast memberships let you pay for extra perks
Spotify is beginning a rollout of Memberships, a feature that lets podcast creators charge fans for exclusive perks through the platform. It gives creators another way to earn money and listeners a way to support shows, while keeping paid content within Spotify.
The feature is launching in 34 regions and can include bonus episodes, early access, additional content or fewer adverts, with creators setting prices and subscription tiers. Spotify says creators keep 90 per cent of membership revenue. Eligible shows must use Spotify for Creators or Megaphone, have at least 100 listening or viewing hours, 100 listeners or viewers, and three published episodes; creators can also use Open Access to bring subscriptions managed elsewhere to Spotify.
