Newcastle Red Bulls, having finished bottom for four consecutive seasons, are undergoing a major transformation under new ownership by Red Bull and new head coach Dan McFarland. After Red Bull took over in August 2025, the club struggled last season with three different managers, but they are now repositioning themselves with a completely revamped squad and McFarland's appointment as the first permanent coaching appointment under the new regime.

The club has recruited 25 new players for the upcoming season and begins their campaign with a challenging fixture against defending champions Northampton Saints. McFarland, previously head coach at Ulster, has adopted Red Bull's characteristically bold approach, visiting the company's headquarters in Salzburg during pre-season to help the new squad gel. He likens Newcastle's position to starting "at the back of the grid" against stronger opponents, emphasising the excitement of the challenge and Red Bull's commitment to achieving something special through substantial corporate support and collaboration across the organisation.
