Stephen Wilson Jr. has released “Hardwired”, a collaboration with Miranda Lambert that incorporates elements of the Pixies’ “Where Is My Mind?”. The song blends country songwriting with alternative-rock influences to portray working-class strain, exhaustion and the mental pressure of constant hard living, reinforcing Wilson’s interest in rural and blue-collar stories.

Written by Wilson, Lambert, Jesse Frasure and Adam Hood, “Hardwired” is expected to appear on the follow-up to Wilson’s 2023 album Son of Dad. It follows “Gary”, another song about overlooked labour, and continues Wilson’s history of revisiting alternative and grunge music, including covers by the Smashing Pumpkins, Nirvana, the Postal Service and Temple of the Dog on his 2025 Blankets EP.
