Many gaming commenters initially believed the ports were being released across multiple current-generation platforms, and the Switch 2 exclusivity has sparked widespread frustration, particularly as these two acclaimed Lord of the Rings games have never been remastered or re-released for modern consoles.

The bundle includes Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor Game of the Year Edition and Middle Earth: Shadow of War Definitive Edition, which are widely considered among the best Lord of the Rings-related games ever made, largely due to their innovative Nemesis system that assigns unique names, personalities and attributes to randomly generated adversaries. Currently, PS5 players can only access the original PS4 versions through backwards compatibility, which run at a sluggish 30 frames-per-second. The newfound demand from players hoping for next-generation ports may attract developer attention, though nothing has been officially announced for other platforms.
