Ted Lasso is returning for a fourth season on 5 August, more than three years after its supposedly final third season aired in 2023. Creator and star Jason Sudeikis reconvened the show's writers in Ojai, California, in February 2024 after having second thoughts about ending it, ultimately opting to continue the story rather than pursue any of several spin-off ideas that had been floated for characters such as Roy Kent, Keeley Jones or Leslie Higgins.

The new season centres on AFC Richmond's newly formed women's team rather than the men's side that anchored the first three seasons, though returning favourites include Ted (Sudeikis), Rebecca (Hannah Waddingham), Keeley (Juno Temple) and Roy (Brett Goldstein). When it last aired in 2023, Ted Lasso was the year's most-watched streaming original with 283 million viewing hours and had won 13 Emmys, including two for best comedy, plus a Peabody Award, leaving its creators uncertain how much of that audience will return after the long hiatus.
