A 16-year-old from Nottingham has been charged with preparing a terrorist attack in the first case where "misanthropy"—hatred of humanity—is being treated as an ideological motive for terrorism. This development is significant because young people planning mass casualty attacks have previously escaped terrorism charges due to lacking a recognised political, religious or racial ideology, despite security concerns about violence-fixated young men driven by rage and resentment.

In September, police received an online link to documents where the teenager expressed hatred for British people and society, stating he was motivated by "suicidal ideation and misanthropy." He detailed plans for an attack involving weapons including a hatchet, kitchen knives and throwing knives, describing how he would kill people before attempting to hijack a car and drive into crowds. Officers arrested him the following day and discovered a duffle bag containing knives, a small axe, swords and attack-planned clothing at his home. The teenager faces trial in April 2027 and potentially a life sentence.
