The Avengers #1 Review: A Marvel Relaunch Done Right

Chip Zdarsky and Marco Checchetto’s new Avengers series is presented as a promising relaunch after a decade in which the franchise struggled to regain its earlier appeal. The review says the first issue builds a distinct team from the aftermath of *Avengers: Armageddon*, rather than simply repeating the approach of Brian Michael Bendis’s *New Avengers*.

With the old guard gone, Spider-Man, Wolverine, Miracleman and a weakened Captain Marvel step in as the world needs help. Spider-Man serves as the team’s moral centre, while the issue begins developing a bond between Captain Marvel and Matt Murdock. The review also praises Checchetto’s artwork, Matt Wilson’s colours and the story’s links to current Marvel continuity.
