Actor Kathryn Newton has discussed her growing status as a horror mainstay ahead of the release of her new shark-infused survival thriller, "The Devil's Mouth," on Amazon Prime Video. Speaking to The Hollywood Reporter, she reflected on whether she has earned the "scream queen" label, noting that opinions on the term vary depending on who is asked, and that time will tell how she is ultimately regarded.

Newton has appeared in seven horror films since starring in "Paranormal Activity 4" at the age of 15, including "Freaky," "Lisa Frankenstein," "Abigail" and the upcoming "Ready or Not 2: Here I Come" and "White Elephant." In "The Devil's Mouth," directed by Jeff Wadlow, she plays Sara, part of a college friend group whose Thailand cave-diving trip turns disastrous; Newton said she took the role primarily to challenge herself physically for action work rather than for its horror elements. She also touched on filming Marvel's "Avengers: Doomsday," in which she plays Cassie Lang, describing her experience working with returning directors the Russo brothers.
