‘The Odyssey’ Cast Guide: All the Heroes, Gods and Characters in Christopher Nolan’s Greek Epic
Christopher Nolan's film adaptation of Homer's "The Odyssey" opens in cinemas on 17 July, with Matt Damon leading a star-studded cast as Odysseus, the Greek king battling storms, monsters and haunting memories of the Trojan War on his long journey home to Ithaca. This marks Damon's third collaboration with Nolan after "Interstellar" and "Oppenheimer", but his first time as the film's central character, in a project that reunites several of the director's regular collaborators alongside a raft of new names.
The supporting cast includes Anne Hathaway as Odysseus's wife Penelope, who fends off scheming suitors while awaiting his return, and Tom Holland as their son Telemachus, who is torn between hope and doubt over his father's fate. Zendaya plays the goddess Athena, Robert Pattinson takes on the conniving suitor Antinous, and further roles go to Charlize Theron, Samantha Morton, Jon Bernthal, Elliot Page, Benny Safdie, Himesh Patel, John Leguizamo, Lupita Nyong'o and Bill Irwin, among others, across a sprawling ensemble of gods, monsters and mortals.
