The retirement home of your dreams: Chats with Celia Imrie and Ralph Fiennes, private chefs and a stunning pool – if you have £1million to spare

Riverstone Living Fulham, a gated riverside retirement community in west London, offers residents luxury facilities and celebrity-studded events not typically associated with elder care, at prices reportedly reaching around £1million. The development, home to more than 100 residents over 65, blends hotel-style amenities with discreet health support, reflecting a growing trend towards upmarket, resort-style retirement living for wealthier older Britons.

Amenities at the complex include a swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool with UV-sterilised water, golf simulator with 500 virtual courses, cinema, spa, gym and several bars, alongside clubs for art, books, Tai Chi and pilates, chauffeured trips to West End shows, and talks from celebrities including Ralph Fiennes and Joanna Lumley. Less visible but equally central are wellbeing-focused features such as annual mobility consultations, discreet help buttons and a 24/7 doctor service. CEO Duncan Garrood said the aim is for it to "feel like a home" rather than a hotel. Riverstone already runs sites in Fulham and Kensington and plans a third in Bishops Avenue this November; residents Janice and Tony Isaac described initial scepticism from friends and family before embracing the move, citing safety and community as key benefits after losing several friends during the pandemic years.
