The 1995 Spacehog hit "In the Meantime" gained renewed prominence when featured on the Guardians of the Galaxy Vol 3 soundtrack, reigniting interest in the band and prompting their reunion after a decade of inactivity. Though the band remained unaware of the song's placement owing to not controlling their master recordings, the high-profile exposure provided the catalyst needed for them to reunite and tour extensively over the past two years.

Fronted by Leeds-born brothers Royston and Antony Langdon, Spacehog were based in New York and blended 1970s glam with 1980s new wave influences rather than conforming to the 1990s Britpop and grunge sounds of their era. The track was meticulously crafted with nods to classic rock icons including Queen, David Bowie's guitarist Mick Ronson, and John Lennon, featuring backwards piano chords, a Penguin Cafe Orchestra sample for its intro, and reportedly possibly a Lennon-era bass guitar. Released as their debut single, "In the Meantime" achieved Top 40 placement on both sides of the Atlantic and reached number one on both US and UK rock charts.
