The Strokes Play Druski-Hosted SNL, Share New Video Featuring Spitting Image Puppets
The Strokes performed on *Saturday Night Live* during an episode hosted by comedian Druski, who became the show’s first digital content creator to host. The appearance was notable because guitarist Nick Valensi was absent for the first time in the band’s five SNL performances; he has been on a temporary break, with Steve Schiltz filling in.
The band played “Lonely In The Future” and “Going Shopping”, joined for the latter by Walton Goggins on bongos, as in the song’s video. After the episode, the Strokes released a Warren Fu-directed video for “Lonely In The Future”, featuring Spitting Image puppet caricatures of the band, including Valensi, and figures such as Lou Reed, Stanley Kubrick and Greta Thunberg. The episode also featured Druski sketches, a Trump-themed cold open and appearances by Emma Stone, Dave Chappelle and Chris Rock.
In short
- Druski became the first digital content creator to host SNL.
- The Strokes performed two songs, with Nick Valensi absent.
- Their new video features Spitting Image puppets of the band and public figures.
