There will be nudity in Marvel’s Wolverine — but there’s a catch

Polygon · 3 hours ago

Insomniac Games' upcoming title Marvel's Wolverine will feature partial nudity, according to a content rating issued by the Entertainment Software Rating Board (ESRB). The rating, which sets Mature 17+ as the game's classification, confirms that the title marks a significant tonal departure from Insomniac's previous Spider-Man games, incorporating heavier violence, gore and strong language alongside the nudity. This matters because it signals the studio's intent to portray Wolverine's brutal, adult-oriented storyline with fewer restrictions than its earlier Marvel titles.

The ESRB's description specifies that the nudity is limited to brief sequences showing "a character's exposed buttocks," rather than any more extensive depiction. The rating also cites blood and gore, intense violence including dismemberment and decapitation, drug references, and profanity such as "f**k" and "sh*t". The specific character involved has not been confirmed, though speculation points to either Wolverine himself or Mystique, both of whom have been depicted partially unclothed in previous Marvel adaptations. Marvel's Wolverine is set to launch on PlayStation 5 on 15 September.
