Los Angeles thieves steal $300,000 Hermès collection from home
Thieves broke into Patricia Vuagniaux’s Los Angeles home while she was at a doctor’s appointment and stole her collection of Hermès handbags, estimated to be worth $250,000 to $300,000. She believes she was targeted because she had listed her bags in a Facebook group, and says the theft has left her afraid to be at home.
The burglars reportedly entered from the side, avoided a Ring camera and forced open a locked closet; Vuagniaux also said a signal jammer disrupted cameras at her home and nearby properties. The collection took more than 20 years to build and was part of her retirement fund. The thieves also took watches and a jewellery box containing her daughters’ baby teeth, which she described as the most painful loss.

Hermès is a French luxury fashion house best known for its leather goods, including handbags that can be costly and sought after by collectors. Some people build collections over many years, and the bags can also be treated as valuable assets.
Home burglaries involving high-value goods can raise questions about how thieves find out what is inside a property and whether security cameras can deter or record a break-in. Social media listings may reveal that someone owns valuable items, though an online post alone does not establish how a particular theft was planned.
The reported loss also includes personal belongings alongside the bags, watches and jewellery. For Vuagniaux, the collection represented both years of collecting and part of her retirement savings.
