Timber’s touch of class and supersub Saka secure Arsenal win against Lille
Arsenal beat Lille 3-0 at the Emirates, extending their winning run to 12 matches and maintaining their formidable Champions League record at home. The result came on a night when the club paid tribute to life president Ken Friar, who died aged 92 and helped oversee Arsenal’s move from Highbury to the Emirates.
Jurriën Timber broke the deadlock in the 64th minute, before substitutes Bukayo Saka and Martin Ødegaard helped Arsenal take control; Eberechi Eze added the second and Saka scored the third. Arsenal have now won 14 consecutive league-stage matches in the competition, while their goal against Lille was their 36th at home in the league or group stage since returning to the Champions League under Mikel Arteta in 2023-24. Lille had an Ayase Ueda goal ruled out for offside, and former Arsenal striker Olivier Giroud received a standing ovation on his return to north London.
