Explained simply
Harry Bosch is a fictional Los Angeles detective created by crime writer Michael Connelly. The novels follow Bosch across decades of his life and career, and have also been adapted for television, with Titus Welliver playing the adult detective.
The MacLaren Children’s Center was a real children’s home in California. In the novel, Bosch spent time there as a boy, and the death of another child, known as Chops, becomes a case he investigates as an adult.
The story links Bosch’s childhood to his later work as a detective. Its audiobook uses two narrators to represent Bosch at different ages, while a separate prequel series is planned around his younger years.
