A supermarket manager in Puebla, Mexico, was hailed a hero after saving a three-year-old girl who ran into oncoming traffic away from her parents. Luis Cruz, who was operating a forklift outside the SuperKing El Rey Del Ahorro store, abandoned his task and sprinted onto the road to grab the toddler moments before she was struck by two approaching cars, shielding her fall with his own body as he tumbled backwards.

CCTV footage released by the supermarket shows two adults chasing after the girl, with one slipping and falling before she reached the road, leaving them unable to catch her in time. In recognition of his actions, the store named Cruz its Manager of the Year and awarded him 20,000 Mexican pesos (about $1,200), praising his willingness to intervene despite having no connection to the child, with a company Instagram post declaring "Today, Puebla has a new superhero."
