Tom Cruise arrives by helicopter ahead of Scientology protests in Sussex

Tom Cruise arrived in Sussex by helicopter ahead of the Church of Scientology’s annual international gathering, where former members are expected to protest. The three-day event at Saint Hill Manor matters because demonstrators are again raising allegations of mistreatment and unpaid labour, which the church denies.

The gathering begins on Friday evening and drew about 7,000 people last year, including members from countries such as the US, South Africa and Denmark. Protesters marched through East Grinstead on Thursday with signs calling for an end to abuse and affirming that doubts are valid. Mid Sussex District Council has approved temporary facilities, including parking for up to 683 cars and a large events area.
