Prong guitarist and vocalist Tommy Victor says the band’s forthcoming self-titled album represents a “new renaissance”, driven by a move to Napalm Records, frequent touring and what he sees as a more modern, revitalised sound. Due on 6 November, the record combines the group’s established New York hardcore, thrash, crossover and industrial-metal influences with more song-focused writing, while also becoming heavier and faster.

Victor said he remains the main songwriter, although drummer Tyler Joseph contributed riffs to first single “The Banner”; songs were written at very different speeds, including one composed backstage shortly before recording. The album will include tracks such as “The Uprising”, “Fear The Sun” and “New Commission”, with Victor describing influences ranging from contemporary nu-metal-style song structures to darker, gothic material reminiscent of Type O Negative and Killing Joke.
