Tongue ruled out of Australia tour as Rashid stars in warm-up
Josh Tongue has been ruled out of England’s white-ball tour of Australia after suffering a toe injury in Pakistan last month. His absence is a setback as England prepare for next year’s World Cup, while the tour is their first visit to Australia since the 2025-26 Ashes series.
The 28-year-old, who took 18 wickets in that Ashes series and 46 in 17 matches this year, will return to the UK for assessment and could be fit for England’s Test tour of South Africa in December. England begin the Australia tour with an ODI in Perth on 13 November. In a warm-up match, Adil Rashid took 4-35 and Jofra Archer 3-34 as England beat Western Australia by 92 runs, defending 251 after Ben Duckett scored 49 and Liam Dawson made an unbeaten 44.
In short
- Josh Tongue will miss England’s white-ball tour of Australia with a toe injury.
- He may return for the Test series in South Africa in December.
- Adil Rashid took four wickets in England’s 92-run warm-up win.
