Toronto film festival: Helen Mirren, Chris Rock and Seth Rogen lead lineup

The Guardian · 1 day ago

The Toronto International Film Festival has unveiled a starry lineup for its 51st edition in September, with world premieres led by Helen Mirren, Seth Rogen and Chris Rock. The festival, held after Venice, has a strong track record of launching Oscar winners such as Green Book and Dallas Buyers Club, and this year's slate suggests further awards contenders, alongside high-profile comedies, thrillers and dramas from established and first-time directors.

Highlights include Mirren playing author Patricia Highsmith in the thriller A Talent for Murder alongside Alden Ehrenreich; Rogen starring in the comedy Babies, directed by his wife Lauren Miller Rogen; and Rock returning with his Hollywood-set comedy Misty Green, featuring Adam Driver and Daniel Kaluuya. Other premieres include Peter Farrelly's Stallone biopic I Play Rocky, Courteney Cox's true-crime thriller Evil Genius, Rebel Wilson's comeback film Girl Group, and John Madden's drama Onwards and Sideways starring Laura Linney and Rhys Ifans. Further titles star Taron Egerton, Amanda Seyfried, James McAvoy and Chase Infiniti, underlining the breadth of this year's programme.
