Jetstar is facing criticism after announcing it will charge passengers to place carry-on bags in overhead lockers. The planned fee has prompted complaints from travellers, some of whom describe it as excessive, and it may add to wider concern about rising airline ancillary charges.

Passengers would pay from A$25, roughly £9 or US$18, for each overhead-bin bag on a flight, while smaller items that fit under the seat are expected to remain subject to existing cabin-baggage rules.
