Travellers arrive at north London park with caravans illegally pitched up next to multi-million-pound homes

Daily Mail ·

At least 12 caravans have been pitched on Muswell Hill playing fields in north London, near Coldfall Wood nature reserve and homes worth millions. The unauthorised encampment has drawn attention to damage reported at the site, including tyre marks, scorched grass and litter, and to the recurring disputes over access to public land.

Residents said they first noticed the group last Thursday; the caravans were accompanied by 19 other vehicles. The council-owned fields have hosted a previous encampment, including one in August 2025 with 15 caravans and horses, which was later moved on. Haringey Council is understood to know about the current camp, but it is unclear whether an eviction notice has been served; Traveller communities cite a shortage of official pitches and stigma as reasons for roadside stays.
