Country star Travis Tritt has revealed that his 1991 hit "Here's A Quarter (Call Someone Who Cares)" was born directly out of a painful divorce he went through before signing his first record deal. The uptempo track, the lead single from his sophomore album It's All About To Change, was written entirely by Tritt and became a defining hit of his early career, though its origins were far more personal than its breezy sound suggests.

Tritt explained that he wrote the song years before moving to Nashville, during his second divorce, which occurred just before he signed with Warner Bros. in the late 1980s. He recalled coming home to find his house emptied by his departing wife, only for a sheriff's deputy to arrive moments later serving him with divorce papers. In an ironic twist, his soon-to-be ex-wife phoned him with a change of heart while he was still reading the papers, prompting him to question whether reconciliation was worth pursuing — a moment of reflection that directly inspired the song's lyrics.
