Explained simply
Sheffield is a city in South Yorkshire with a longstanding Muslim community, including families with roots in Pakistan and elsewhere. Local shops and community radio have provided ways for people to meet, share information and hear programmes connected to their faith and culture.
Radio Ramadhan is a station associated with the Islamic holy month of Ramadan, when Muslims fast from dawn to sunset. Shabbir’s work linked two parts of local life: running Karachi Stores in Attercliffe and helping establish a radio service for Sheffield’s Muslim community.
