The Trump administration announced results from Operation Highway Shield, a crackdown on illegal immigration within the US trucking industry, on Tuesday. Launched by the Department of Transportation in Florida earlier this year, the operation has since expanded across several Midwestern states, reflecting the administration's broader push to tighten immigration enforcement and commercial driving standards nationwide.

Officials conducted 3,487 enforcement stops during the operation, resulting in 51 immigration-related detentions, 36 English language proficiency violations and 766 unsafe commercial vehicle violations. Alongside the crackdown, the administration is promoting its Freedom Haulers Initiative, which aims to streamline commercial driving licence (CDL) processes for military veterans with prior driving experience, easing their entry into trucking jobs.
