Trump administration unfreezes $600M for Gavi global vaccine effort

The Hill · 3 hours ago

The Trump administration has agreed to release $600 million in US funding for Gavi, the global vaccine alliance, after the money had been withheld. The decision matters because Gavi helps fund immunisation programmes in lower-income countries, and the delayed funding had raised concerns about continuity of vaccination efforts.

Congress appropriated $300 million for Gavi in each of the 2025 and 2026 financial years. The administration had linked the funding dispute to concerns over thimerosal, a vaccine preservative, while Gavi said it would use the money to support malaria and other immunisation programmes.
